Erie County Conservation Society - the oldest conservation club in New York

Formed in 1896 by a group of individuals actively involved in Erie County government, this society was formed for the conservation and preservation of the natual environment in Erie County.  The original club was called “The Erie County Society for the Protection of Birds, Fish and Game”.  Twenty years later it was renamed the Erie County Conservation Society.

The Grounds

The Society is situated on 97 acres at 13319 Miller Ave.  in the town of Chaffee.  Our features include  a 14 acre fishing pond, groomed trails, covered shooting range and a modern clubhouse.

The Pond

Built in 1948, the 14 acre pond was stocked with black bass and blue gills.  In 1969 the pond was dredged and perch were added.  An overflow was added in 1996.  Although fishing is welcome, waterfowl hunting is prohibited.

The Range

The covered range features bench seating with target frames at 7.5, 15, 25, 50 and 100 yards.  The range is open daily from 8:30 AM until legal sunset and closed only during hunting season or during special events.
